YEE HAW
THIS GUY HAS TO BE THE BEST COUNTRY SINGER SINCE HANK WILLIAMS SR AND GEORGE JONES. ALSO HIS LEAD GUITARIST IS OFF THE HOOK. THE SOUND IS A LITTLE MUDDY SO I'M GIVING IT FOUR STARS. I DON'T MIND A MUDDY AUD. I THINK IT'S PART OF THE CHARM.

Super bad ass!
Wayne Hancock at his best! Although the sound quality isn't great, it is ,in my opinion, the best one on the archive. Go see him live. It's will be a cheap show at a dive and he will play for 2 1/2 hours. He is the performer, the songwriter, and he even drives the van. Tapers ought to check out this guy because this is timeless, classic music and should be preserved.
Give us more Wayne shows!!!THANKS

About As Good As It Gets
Wayne Hancock is one of my all-time favorites and I am delighted to come across his live music here in the Internet Archive! Wayne "the train" Hancock's music is pure Americana. He mixes country, rock and blues with jazz, swing, western and rockabilly to create something familiar yet original. This Texan's brilliant song writing skills match one of the most unique voices. His music tends to simultaneously sound vintage and innovative.
As for this 4-08-04 Underground City Tavern show, it was the 'new' Wayne show at the time of this review. This show is a great one! Wayne plays many of his best songs like "California Blues" "Thunderstorms & Neon Signs" and "87 Southbound." "Viper" is an old-time marijuana tune, a good tune for the stoners. With this full-lenth show, we are treated to Johnny Cash's "Folsom Prison Blues." In terms of the sound quality, this is about the best in the Internet Archive, close to the 9-20-03 show. Some background noises leak into the microphones and create a small distraction, but overall the sound quality is excellent. There is a perfect balance between the vocals and the instruments. Furthermore, this is a really long show, almost twice as long as two other Internet Archive shows by Wayne. Considering that his albums are usually short, you get quantity and quality with this one! The line-up features: 1) acoustic guitar, 2) upright (acoustic) bass and 3) electric guitar. This show gives you a good feel of what it's like to experience an Americana Legend in a small club.

Good, but not great
The Train is what he is, pure magic. Recording though much less than perfect. The band sounds good, but it sounds like the mics ain't pickin up the PA system too good. 3 stars for sound.
5 stars for performance.

Great sound quality
Great sounding recording. Great house sound. Great band sound. Sweet tone on the tele. Particularly charming is the clanking of empty beer bottles being collected. It's as real as it gets. Nice long show, too.
